Do you have great expectations in life? Do you find that relationships or experiences continually let you down?
I did – when I wrote this song, it was shortly after Valentine’s Day and I realized, that perhaps the reason why I was being let down, was because my expectations were high and matching them was extremely difficult.
But my expectations were not only high of others, they were high for myself. Perhaps they still are…but this is how I keep myself moving forward and creating the best work I possibly can.
However, there’s a difference between acceptance and positive reinforcement vs. judgment and criticism. I’ve gotten better at knowing the difference between those two little voices inside my head – and perhaps you can too (if you haven’t already). Here’s a live video of a recent performance in Venice Beach under the Venice Sign for their annual Sign Lighting! It was an incredible event – I opened up for Rock n Roll Hall of Famers Steve Ferrone (Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers) and Al Jardine (The Beach Boys).
Previous events featured celebrities like Matthew Modine, P!nk, Robert Downey Jr. Anjelica Huston and Robby Kreiger of The Doors. This song is also featured in the TV show “The Next Step”.
