I’ve decided I should start blogging about all the cool things going on in the city and in my life so here goes:
Last Friday evening, on April. 20th, I played my first show ever at Bourbon Quarter in Saint John, NB. Accompanying me, was Justin Charron, someone I’ve known for ages. Preppin’ for a show was really fun and I can’t wait to do more. A few days before the show, I decided I haddddd to play a Kanye West song somehow, so we included Mr. West’s “Heartless” and mashed it into a cover of  “Sweet Dreams”.
Some of my other favourite artists we covered was Young the Giant, Missy Higgins, Adele, Jewel and the Cranberries. I also played some compositions which was definitely a tricky part as you feel you’re exposing your diary when you share a song you have written.
Justin wowed the crowd by improvising and writing a song on the spot for an audience member – pretty insane! Now it’s back to the drawing board to write some new tracks and play more shows.
A special thank you to everyone who came out – you all know who you are! Your support means so much to me. We were able to raise $110 to go towards helping Saint John Mill Rats player Modibo Diarra bring his wife Merriam and little girl Cindy, over from Mali, Africa. A fun-raising event will be announced shortly – please stay tuned for more details!

Joseph Comeau (a student at Atlantica Centre for the Arts) took some photos for me as well. Check him out on Facebook at JPOC Photography. For those of you who don’t know, I am now Student Services Director at the Atlantica Centre. We do really cool things here, like 3D animation, broadcasting, music production & graphic design.

For those of you who like hip hop music, we will be playing at Peppers Pub on Friday evening, April. 27th. With a full band behind us, including Justin Charron on the keys, Napz Meka and myself will give you some raw Saint John vocal talent. Joining us will be Something Good & The Extremities from Halifax & Toronto. For more details, click here.

On Saturday, April. 21st, I had an incredible 3 course lunch at Opera Bistro with some friends while enjoying Judith Mackin speak about the teamwork of Punch Inside  and how the team (Judith, Amy Ash & Sarah Tapley) created the fabulous renovations with a budget of $10, 000. This reminds us that true artists can improvise and turn the simplest things into creative masterpieces. For full details, check out Judith’s feature on HGTV.

To start off my week, I attended the first meeting for the Saint John Board of Trade’s Outstanding Business Achievement Awards for 2012. I was a part of this awesome committee last year and look forward to making this year even better! The event is happening on October. 3rd, 2012 – pencil it in now, you won’t want to miss it! #OBA2012

Saint John Board of Trade OBA Committee 2011

And for a final topic, I’m excited to be on Rogers TV Dropline channel 10 at 8pm this evening with Karen Riley for “It’s A Girl Thing!” Ironically, Karen and I both sat on the OBA Committee together last year and now we are co-producers for this awesome event! Have you heard about it? Joining us on Dropline will be Greg Hemmings and Mark Hemmings from Hemmings House Pictures – the keynote speakers for the event which takes place on Sunday afternoon from 1-4pm, May. 6th at the Saint John Arts Centre. If you love free samples, meeting new people, and learning about all things girly while supporting a great cause, be sure to come on out!
